6 months internship programme

MyFirstSkool at Blk 49 Whampoa South (Feb 2022 - Aug 2022)

I was attached to NTUC First Campus, My First Skool from February to August 2022 for my internship program. I was assigned to a nursery 2 (4 years old) classroom and my mentor as well as lead teacher, Ms Robi, guided and helped me throughout my internship. She taught and provided me with many constructive feedbacks to help me improve on my lesson plans and activities that are carried out on daily basis.

I was tasked to create and do up different corners in the centre when transitioning from term 2 to 3. The various corners includes dramatic corner and learning centre corner. The learning corner targets the 6 development domains language and literacy, discover of the world, numeracy, aesthetic and creative expression, social and emotional development and motor skills development.

Language and Literacy Lesson Plan

FINE MOTOR LESSON

Manipulate scissors with dexterity and reinforce eye-hand coordination by cutting the straight and wavy lines provided on the worksheet.

ART LESSON

Create a 3 dimensional bus model using recycled tissue box brought from home Design the bus model by painting and pasting paper cut outs.

WORKING TOGETHER

The children are encouraged to work and play cooperatively in a group by sorting things in their respective colours. It also aims to build and strengthen relationships with their peers by working together.

COLOUR DISCOVERY

Discover the composition of the secondary colours by mixing the respective primary colours, and share with the class how the various colours were mixed during the sharing session.

SHOW AND TELL

Children express their ideas using appropriate languages and take turns in conversation through the show-and-tell session. Answer questions posed by educator and their peers

MUSIC LESSON

Allow the children to explore creating loud and soft sounds with musical instruments and recollect their understanding regarding the different dynamics.

2 months attachment Teacher Assistant

MindChamps Preschool @ Yio Chu Kang Nov 2021 (Nov 2021 - Dec 2021)

During my second year in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, I had the opportunity to undertake a one month practicum at MindChamps Preschool. In the course of this period, I was assigned to a Kindergarten 1 classroom where I was tasked to create three lesson plans and develop two numeracy corners, as well as implementing them.

Before implementing the lesson plans, it was crucial for me to carefully observe the preschool setting. This helped me understand how educators work and provide clear evidence of how educators operate within the environment with the use of various strategies.

The assigned responsibilities involved executing lesson plans with a focus on the development of motor skills, language literacy, and numeracy (more information can be found in the attachment). These assignments helped me learnt about the different types of classroom strategies for effectively managing children during lessons and allowed me to put them into practice.
